Indications and Dosage
Oral
Hypertension
Adult: 10 g/day as crude fruit/herb to make tea.

Parenteral
Neoplastic disease
Adult: 0.1-30 mg IV/SC several times/wk.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hepatitis. Severe delayed hypersensitivity. Local skin reactions eg swelling & dead skin (inj), chills, fever, headache, chest pain, hypotension & allergic reactions.
Potentially Fatal: 3 cytotoxic compds: alkaloids, viscotoxins & lectins are present. Viscotoxins may cause hypotension, bradycardia, arterial vasoconstriction & a negative inotropic effect, & may act as acetylcholine agonists. The lectins show toxic effects in animals similar to those seen with ricin.
Action
Description: Viscum album has a vasodilator action & has been used for hypertension & CV disorders although its activity when taken orally is questionable. It has also been used in nervous disorders & in homoeopathic medicine. It contains lectins with cytotoxic & immunomodulatory actions in vitro & it has been used in neoplastic diseases.
